Just last week, we wrote about the tragic motor vehicle accident death of a member of the Texas A&M University football team. Now, the Associated Press is reporting that another Texas athlete has died in a car accident: former Texas Rangers pitcher Rosman Garcia.

The fatal accident occurred in Venezuala, Garcia's native country and his current home. The 32-year-old was reportedly driving along the Central Regional Highway outside Caracas when his car skidded off the road and crashed into a tree. No one else was in the car with him, and it does not appear that any other vehicles were involved. There are no reports on the injuries that caused Garcia's death or the reason that he lost control of his car.

Garcia began his Major League Baseball career in 1996 when he was signed by the New York Yankees. He was acquired in a trade by the Texas Rangers late in the 2001 season. In 2003, he pitched 46 games for the Rangers. He pitched four games for Texas in 2004, but that was the end of his MLB career. He has since spent four seasons pitching in the Mexican League. Most recently, he was playing in his native country as a member of the Aragua Tigers in the Venezuelan Winter League.

It is a loss that his former Texas teammates and coaches will feel, according to former Rangers Manager Buck Showalter. "He was a good teammate, always had a smile on his face. He really tried hard and loved playing," he said. "He was pleasant, full of energy and always loved helping his team win."
